WinMPG Video Convert 9.1.7.0

One of the best known video file format is AVI. But it is not the only video format out there; the simple truth of the matter is that there is a myriad of file formats that relate to media. Just off the top of my head, I can think of MPEG1 and MPEG2, DivX, WMV, and MOV.

There will come a time when you have a file format and need to convert it to another file format. Say for example you have an AVI file but you need a VOB file. What do you do? You get a software application that specializes in converting media from one format to another – like for example WinMPG Video Convert.

This Direct-Soft Inc-developed piece of software weighs in at little over 12MB. The download may take a bit if you’re on a sluggish internet connection; but after you download and install the program on your Windows-powered computer, what you’ll have is a properly good converter that provides support for a wide range of file formats.

Here are some of the formats WinMPG Video Convert provides support for: AVI, WMV, MPG, ASF, PSP, DivX, 3GP, FLV, VOB, MP4, MOV, SWF, VCD, RM, SVCD, AMV, MKW, XVID, and more. You can easily convert one file format to another. While WinMPG Video Convert converts your file, the software provides a handy preview window. While it is nice to have a preview of the file being converted, it could prove wise to disable it and thus give the conversion process a speed boost.

WinMPG Video Convert is not freeware, it is shareware. This means you can use the application to convert your files, but the converted files will display a watermark that says “unregistered version”.

The UI (user interface) is interesting as it looks like a video player (reminded be of an old version of BS Player). The UI comes with 2 skins which you can change in one of two ways. You can either right click -> go to Select Skin -> pick a skin. Or you can click the yellow smiley face.

There isn’t much to tell about using WinMPG Video Convert because it is a very straightforward process. You simply select the output format, select the file you would like to have converted and click Start. Then you wait for the process to complete. There’s nothing more to it.
